THE TOM Rockliff-Brent Harvey clash on Saturday night might still have another chapter, with the AFL set to again speak to the Brisbane Lions and North Melbourne about the incident on Tuesday.

 

Lions midfielder Rockliff sparked a brief, animated post-match altercation with Harvey, when he appeared to sledge the North Melbourne veteran after the siren sounded on the Lions' four-point win.

 

North coach Brad Scott then approached Rockliff out on the Gabba during a post-match tribute to retired Lions champion Jonathan Brown.

 

The AFL's football operations department subsequently contacted Scott to discuss his actions, but the coach did not receive a 'please explain' from the AFL.

 

However, an AFL spokesman told AFL.com.au the League would be speaking to the parties involved in Saturday night's incident on Tuesday.

 

Scott defended his actions in approaching Rockliff, telling reporters on Monday he had spoken to the Lions midfielder in a controlled manner.

 

The Roos coach said his message to Rockliff had been simple: "Come on mate, I think you're better than that."

 

Rockliff said on Sunday his exchange with Harvey was a "heat of the moment" decision and he might have got carried away.

 

"We haven't had many wins this year and anything to get excited about. It was a spur-of-the-moment thing and the game was on the line right until the end," Rockliff said.

 

"A few words were exchanged, but that's footy and I think everyone makes mistakes and you learn from it and move on.

 

"You don't want to be a pushover all the time, so you've got to stand your ground sometimes and I think we did that in the last five minutes to hold them at bay."

 

Rockliff said Scott's approach to him was poorly timed, given it occurred during the on-field ceremony for Brown.
