Matt White and Chad Wingard have given Port reasons to smile after its preliminary final loss
PORT Adelaide pair Matt White and Chad Wingard have taken out the Hungry Jack's Goal of the Year and Lifebroker Mark of the Year respectively.
The awards, presented at the Brownlow Medal vote count on Monday night, are some solace for the Power, which came up three points short of a Grand Final berth in a devastating preliminary final loss to Hawthorn last Saturday.
It is the first time two players from one club have won the awards in the same season since Brisbane Lions Jonathan Brown and Jason Akermanis completed the double in 2002.
White took three bounces en route to his sensational running goal against Richmond, bolting from the half-back flank into the forward 50 and finishing his shot on the run.
The Power speedster beat young Western Bulldog Marcus Bontempelli, whose twisting snap from the boundary line against Melbourne was also highly commended, and Adelaide's Eddie Betts.
Wingard soared over St Kilda defender Sean Dempster to haul in his towering mark.
The Power half-forward launched himself into the air, reaching backwards to bring in the grab. Then, for good measure, he played on and snapped the goal around the corner.
Wingard won the award ahead of Collingwood's Jamie Elliott and Carlton's Levi Casboult.
