The Tigers head into the week's break 13th on the ladder with just two wins for the season, but face fellow strugglers Melbourne and Greater Western Sydney after the bye.
After a poor start to the season with early losses to Gold Coast and the Western Bulldogs, the Tigers hopes of back-to-back finals appearances are diminishing.
But Riewoldt said he believed the Tigers could still have an impact on the season in their remaining 15 games.
"Last year we strung some big games and wins together," he said on Monday morning.
"I'm confident and have full belief in this football club and full belief in the playing group."
Riewoldt said the five-point loss to Geelong was a far better display than the 66-point thrashing at the hands of Hawthorn seven days earlier.
"I think blokes took a lot out of yesterday - although we didn't get the four points we definitely improved our performance," he said.
"It's frustrating to lose. We don't want to lose.
"But we took some steps forward as a footy club and as a team. A few guys got some confidence back so that's a positive for us."
The returns of midfielder Brett Deledio and key defender Alex Rance were significant for the Tigers on Sunday, providing the team with a more stable structure.
But more importantly Riewoldt said their inclusion took the heat off some of their underperforming teammates.
"They both had a pretty big impact on the game," he said.
"Certainly it alleviates a little bit of the pressure on other blokes playing in those positions. I know Trent (Cotchin) and some of the other midfielders were helped out by having 'Lids' back.
"Rancey was pretty good for us down back yesterday. We've still got a lot of things we want to work on. We're 2-5, hopefully we can start to win a few games and get ourselves back in contention."
