Making bacon at the SCG

"There is a pig at full-forward." It is one of the most memorable lines of football commentary ever from the great Sandy Roberts. So understated, but totally accurate as a bunch of lunatic supporters had their fun as they released a pig onto the SCG in 1994, with the no.4 and a mis-spelled "Plugga" painted on in honour of champion St Kilda full-forward Tony Lockett, despite the fact that Lockett wasn't playing that day. Soon after this game, Swans coach Ron Barassi learned that Lockett was out of contract at the end of the season. Three months later, Plugger was a Swan. Plugga the pig wasn't signed as part of the deal.

Bad omen precludes Crow cat-astrophe

The pig on the ground at the SCG was a deliberate act. "The cat on the deck", as Brian Taylor called it on Saturday night at Adelaide Oval was presumably not. But Adelaide commentators are now speculating whether the black cat that darted its way in and around the goals near the 'Eddie Betts pocket' will be the start of a seven-year curse for the Crows.
