Jarryd Lyons stays a Crow after chat with new coach
Meeting with new coach has positive effect on young Adelaide utility
YOUNG midfielder Jarryd Lyons has signed a new two-year contract with Adelaide despite attracting interest from other clubs during the NAB AFL Trade Period.
The 22-year-old has played just 22 games in three seasons and battled for consistent opportunities under recently departed coach Brenton Sanderson.
The club confirmed his new contract on Monday afternoon with youngsters Sam Shaw, Sam Siggins and Rory Atkins also signing new deals.
St Kilda inquired about the out-of-contract youngster, who also attracted interest from Melbourne at the end of 2013.
However AFL.com.au understands Lyons recently had a productive meeting with newly appointed coach Phil Walsh and, after careful consideration, he is confident he can develop his career with the Crows.
"I met with Phil Walsh and like where the club is heading, Lyons said.
"It is an exciting time and we are all ready for the hard work ahead."
His value had also gone up after he kicked six goals in the final four games of the season and was among the best players against the Brisbane Lions.
Adelaide announced on Friday it had delisted Luke Thompson, Alex Spina and James Battersby, bringing the list changes to nine with Ben Rutten and Jason Porplyzia retired and Jared Petrenko, Shaun McKernan, Angus Graham and Lewis Johnson delisted earlier.
The Crows added Hawthorn duo Kyle Cheney and Luke Lowden to the list in the trade period and will elevate rookie Charlie Cameron to the senior list for 2015.
They will take picks 14, 35, 43, 59 and 86 into the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.
