BARELY a week into his captaincy at Adelaide, Taylor Walker is cutting the figure of a leader and asserting his authority at West Lakes.

The club estimated 1000 supporters watched on at AAMI Stadium as Crows' players completed a relatively light hour-long session on Friday.

Players wore padded 'corkie shorts' during tackling drills and were met by heavy hits when gathering a rolling ball during the session's other contested element.

Walker's on-field presence was obvious as he directed his teammates and encouraged them loudly when a strong tackle was laid – or evaded.

He also let them know when a lift in intensity was required.

Walker named new Crows captain

Ruckman Sam Jacobs (jarred medial ligament) and wingman David Mackay (strained hamstring) didn’t train as they continued to rest their injuries.

Crows' football manager Phil Harper told AFL.com.au neither injuries were considered serious and that both should be back running in "two weeks at the latest".
