HAWTHORN utility Jarryd Roughead has returned to training ahead of schedule, following former teammate Lance Franklin's first appearance at Swans training this week.

Franklin wasn't officially due at the club until December 2, but surprised the first to fourth-year players by hitting the track early.

Roughead has taken a leaf out of his good friend's book and hit the track with the youngsters, as the club begins to deal with life without Franklin.

The Coleman medallist was spotted training with the Hawks first to fourth-year players at a training session at Box Hill City Oval on Friday.

Luke Lowden and Taylor Duryea joined Roughead for the hit-out, with the trio not officially due back until December 2.

The players took part in an agility session, before moving their focus to skills training.

Hawthorn players, including Roughead and premiership teammates Jordan Lewis and Bradley Hill also did a running session around The Tan in Melbourne on Saturday morning. Coach Alastair Clarkson also took part.
