FORMER Hawk footballer Travis Tuck has led West Adelaide to a surprise 53-point thrashing of Port Melbourne in Tuesday night's Foxtel Cup clash at the MCG.

Travis, the son of the great Michael Tuck and brother of Richmond's Shane, managed 15 disposals, five tackles and two goals - despite a gash on his head that forced him off the ground for long periods during the second half.

Port Melbourne looked ominous in the opening quarter, completely dominating possession and controlling the tempo of the game.

However, West Adelaide seemed a completely different outfit after quarter time, increasing its pressure dramatically and levelling the scores at the main break.

The Bloods would go on to kick 12 goals to four in the second half, completely running away with the contest and advancing to the Foxtel Cup semi-finals.

In the absence of Bloods skipper Ryan Ferguson, stand-in captain Aaron Fielke was sublime - his courage and determination stood out among his 15 possessions (12 contested), five tackles and four clearances.

Midfielder Ben Macreadie was industrious with seven clearances, and Ryan Anderson provided valuable pressure while operating at 92 per cent disposal efficiency.

Ruckmen Peter Nelson was clever at the stoppages and dangerous up front, combining with forward Jono Beech for seven goals.

For Port Melbourne, stand-in captain and former Demon Shane Valenti fought admirably, finishing with seven tackles, five clearances and a goal.

Speedster Julian Rowe was handy with 20 disposals, five clearances and six inside-50s. And Forward Danny Hughes marked and presented well, finishing with three goals.

West Adelaide will play the winner of Claremont and Southport in the second semi-final of the Foxtel Cup on Tuesday, July 16.
