CAMERON McCarthy is expected to be fit for October's NAB AFL Draft Combine after the talented West Australian prospect received good news on his broken leg.
McCarthy's exciting display at the Under-18 Championships ended in the final round when he cracked his fibula at Etihad Stadium.
There were fears he had also injured his ankle, but scans cleared him of any trouble there, and he could be back playing within six-eight weeks for South Fremantle after escaping a serious break.
However, it's uncertain whether McCarthy will be picked by the WAFL club even if fit. It may decide to rest him ahead of testing at the combine at Etihad Stadium in October.
The 18-year-old pushed himself into top-20 draft contention with his consistent carnival, which was rewarded with All-Australian selection.
McCarthy is wiry but he jumps high, into and over packs to take marks, kicks goals, and showed he could perform against the best opposition in his age group.
"When he was injured and lying on the table after the game, he was asking when he would be able to get back and play football," said Raff Guadagnino, Western Australia's talent manager.
"That's testament to the boy he is. He's really blossomed in the WA program and we're really pleased with the way he's progressed."
