Clark is continuing to progress in his recovery from a serious foot injury, suffered in round 14 last season.
Neeld said the 25-year-old, who crossed to the Demons from the Brisbane Lions at the end of 2011, trained fully with his teammates on Wednesday and would continue to be monitored closely.
"Mitch is still on track to be available for round one selection," Neeld told Melbourne radio station 3AW on Wednesday night.
"He's coming back from a very serious injury, and he's at that stage in his rehab where, for example, he trained fully today, and how much he does on Friday will depend on how he pulls up tomorrow.
"That's been the case for about a month.
"But nothing has happened at the moment to move us away from the fact that Mitch will be in and around selection for round one - that's been the aim the whole time."
Should Clark prove his fitness in time for the clash with Port Adelaide at the MCG on March 31, he will pair for the first time with former Collingwood forward Chris Dawes, who joined Melbourne late in 2012.
