with Dr Peter Larkins
Doc Larkins, footy's first and most respected media medico, gives his take on the injury lists of all 18 AFL clubs. He writes exclusively every week for AFL.com.au.
Player | Injury | Estimated Return |
---|---|---|
Dylan Buckley | Shoulder | Season |
Andrew Carrazzo | Calf | Season |
Andrew Collins | Quad | Season |
Shaun Hampson | Knee | 2 weeks |
Brock McLean | Quad | Test |
Matthew Watson | Foot | Season |
Simon White | Neck | Season |
The Doc says: McLean did not survive the warm-up last weekend and I cannot see why the Blues would risk him at all this week. Kreuzer appeared to struggle with a right mid-foot injury throughout the match and will be restricted but should play. No other forced changes likely.
Player | Injury | Estimated Return |
---|---|---|
Kepler Bradley | Knee | Season |
Max Duffy | Hamstring | 2 weeks |
Jonathon Griffin | Knee | Season |
Garrick Ibbotson | Achilles | Test |
Michael Johnson | Calf | Test |
Sam Menegola | Knee | Season |
Viv Michie | Knee | Season |
Anthony Morabito | Knee | Season |
Clancee Pearce | Achilles | Season |
Hayden Schloithe | Ankle | Season |
Tanner Smith | Shoulder | Season |
Nick Suban | Ankle | Test |
The Doc says: Suban had a moderate level inversion ankle sprain and was subbed out but will benefit from the week of rest and will be available. Freo has a healthy list and McPharlin was a bonus on his return from chronic left calf tears. Johnson has missed the past two weeks but is a good chance to return after an extra weekend off. Ibbotson is an outside chance only with a long-term Achilles issue.
Player | Injury | Estimated Return |
---|---|---|
Jed Bews | Hamstring | Test |
Josh Caddy | Ankle | Test |
Josh Cowan | Hamstring | 1-2 weeks |
Tom Hawkins | Back | Test |
Andrew Mackie | Ankle | Test |
Hamish McIntosh | Ankle | Season |
Daniel Menzel | Knee | Season |
Dawson Simpson | Knee | Season |
The Doc says: Enright has a high-grade medial ligament tear and would be most unlikely to reappear this final series. Caddy and Mackie have low-level ankle soreness and should be fit to play. Taylor took a heavy knock on his collarbone in the second quarter but is expected to play. Hawkins will be carefully prepared this week and I expect him to definitely play. The Cats had a number of players with "general soreness" so they will have a light week on the track.
Player | Injury | Estimated Return |
---|---|---|
Max Bailey | General soreness | Test |
Xavier Ellis | Calf | TBC |
Cyril Rioli | Ankle | Test |
Ryan Schoenmakers | Knee | Season |
Liam Shiels | Ankle | Test |
Matt Suckling | Knee | Season |
Alex Woodward | Knee | Season |
The Doc says: Rioli was protected from re-injury last week and now has the benefit of a week off. Bailey was subbed out but that was simply good player management from the Hawks. Franklin will return from suspension so the Hawks are in great shape with plenty of options to select their prelim final side from next week.
Player | Injury | Estimated Return |
---|---|---|
Kane Mitchell | Back | Test |
Darren Pfeiffer | Shoulder | Test |
Jarrad Redden | Hip/shoulder | Season |
Paul Stewart | Wrist | Available |
The Doc says: The Power is also in great shape with injuries and have no new concerns from the weekend. Stewart is now six weeks from his broken wrist surgery and should be available. Mitchell should be available after missing since round 23.
Player | Injury | Estimated Return |
---|---|---|
Adam Goodes | Knee | Test |
Alex Johnson | Knee | Season |
Harrison Marsh | Hamstring | Season |
Jarrad McVeigh | Knee | Test |
Sam Reid | Quad | Season |
Lewis Roberts-Thomson | Knee | Test |
Gary Rohan | Leg soreness | Test |
Rhyce Shaw | Knee | Season |
Tommy Walsh | Hamstring | Season |
The Doc says: The Swans had many sore players after the loss to Hawthorn. McVeigh has a right lateral knee (fibular joint) and left calf concerns and will be nursed all week but I expect him to play if he trains well late in the week. Bolton has a right knee contusion (cork) only and will be available. Hannebery appeared a little restricted coming off his knee injury but will be better for the run. Goodes (knee surgery in round 13) is a dilemma - if he completes training without soreness or swelling in his right knee it will be the first time in 12 weeks he has been ready to play. The Swans need to decide on his match role and lack of preparation but I suspect they will play him based on his finals record. Rohan is struggling with on-going right calf soreness around the site of his broken tibia.
