PORT Adelaide midfielder Tom Rockliff will be eased back from a calf injury through the SANFL instead of Saturday's AFL clash with North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Rockliff will play for Port Adelaide's SANFL side in the Anzac Day encounter with Sturt at Peter Motley Oval.

The three-day turnaround will rule Rockliff out from backing up against the Kangaroos, especially on the hard Etihad Stadium surface.

Rockliff injured his calf in the opening minutes of the Power's round four loss to Essendon at Etihad Stadium.

Power defender Jack Hombsch said Rockliff got through Tuesday morning's training session at Alberton Oval.

"He's running around fine," Hombsch said.

"He's a chance to play tomorrow, actually, get some game intensity into the body and it will be good to see him run around.

"If he plays tomorrow, you wouldn't think he'd play on the weekend."

Rockliff has had a slow start to his career at the Power after joining the club on a four-year deal as a free agent.

The 28-year-old former Brisbane skipper has averaged just 12 disposals per game with his new club.

Defender Jasper Pittard will spend another week in the SANFL to continue to build his match fitness after a hamstring injury in the JLT Community Series.

The Power could regain midfielder Sam Powell-Pepper, pending the result of an AFL investigation into a late-night incident.

"Sam wants a resolution and it's played a bit on his mind, but in the change room, we don't talk about it too much," Hombsch said.

"He's one of our mates and we try to keep it as normal as possible.

"He goes out and trains really hard, and hopefully there will be a resolution soon and he'll be back to playing footy."

Hombsch was one of the bright spots for the Power in their 34-point loss to Geelong at Adelaide Oval last Saturday night.

It was the 25-year-old's first game of the season after biding his time in the SANFL for a few weeks.

Hombsch had been a regular in the Power backline, but the emergence of Tom Clurey and Dougal Howard forced him out of the side.

"We've got a lot of young guys coming through, we've got a bit of depth in that key position spot now and it's healthy competition," Hombsch said.

"I've still got a year and a half (left on my contract) and there's a lot of footy still to go and a lot of things can happen in footy.

"There's no point on dwelling on it too much, just enjoy it while you can."
