DANE SWAN is almost certain to delay his retirement plans and continue his football career at Collingwood, according to manager Liam Pickering.

Swan surprised everyone last year, revealing he was contemplating hanging up the boots when his contract expired at the end of the 2014 season.

However, Swan's agent said his client was likely to alter those plans.

"I wouldn't have thought, with the form that he is in, that he would actually be retiring at 30 (years of age)," Pickering said on Fox Footy on Thursday night.

"He will play on, I have got no doubt."

Swan and his teammate Scott Pendlebury are one of the most lethal on-ball partnerships in the competition and have averaged almost 37 possessions, between them, over the past two weeks.

The pair also lead the competition's possession tally, with Swan (468 disposals) just edging out Pendlebury (448) for top honours.

Pickering also ruled out the prospect of Swan being traded, despite speculation linking the Collingwood star to Greater Western Sydney.

"I wouldn't think so," Pickering said.

"The form that he is in, he is so important to his team.

"He is having a terrific year. I wouldn't think that (a trade) would be an option at all."
