Veteran defender to stay at St Kilda despite interest from GWS
ST KILDA veteran Sam Fisher will remain with the club despite interest from Greater Western Sydney.
Fisher, 31, had been expected to leave the Saints, who are desperate to regenerate their list and have already farewelled fellow stars Nick Dal Santo and Ben McEvoy.
"GWS has certainly shown some interest in Sam along the way, but that's never materialised in anything concrete, so Sam will be staying with us," he told Melbourne radio station SEN on Monday morning.
The announcement comes after a year in which there have been murmurings that the Saints have been concerned about Fisher's off-field behaviour.
Fisher's relationship with Richmond bad boy Dustin Martin is thought to be a concern for both clubs.
Fisher and Martin were seen together in Bali during a recent post-season holiday.
The two-time Saints club champion and 2008 All Australian has played 191 games for the Saints but managed just nine this season - and none after round 10 because of injury.
In other St Kilda news, the Saints expect to secure North Melbourne defender Luke Delaney by Tuesday morning, while their negotiations for Brisbane Lions ruckman Billy Longer are tipped to be completed closer to the trade deadline on Friday.
What will give Brisbane the edge when they meet their old foes, Adelaide, in a preliminary?
