Sam Lonergan has called time as Richmond cuts four from its list
RICHMOND midfielder Sam Lonergan has retired after 81 games as the Tigers finalised their list changes ahead of Thursday's first lodgement deadline.
In other changes, Luke McGuane, Robin Nahas, Tom Derickx and rookie Steven Verrier were told they would not be offered contracts for 2014.
Lonergan, who played 79 games in seven years with Essendon, was recruited as a mature-age rookie for the 2013 season but could only push up for two games.
The tough inside midfielder played some outstanding football with VFL club Coburg this season where he was a consistent ball-winner and clearance specialist.
The 26-year-old would have offered important midfield depth in 2014, but he was unlikely to earn permanent promotion to the senior list ahead of the new season.
McGuane, who played 105 games for Richmond over eight seasons, is expected to move to the Brisbane Lions as a delisted free agent.
Nahas, meanwhile, is exploring his options after 83 games and 100 goals in five seasons at Punt Road.
Young ruckman Derickx, who was recruited with pick No.63 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, played just two games in two years with the Tigers.
Richmond made one addition to its playing list during the Gillette AFL Trade and Free Agency Period, securing ruckman Shaun Hampson from Carlton.
Mature-age rookie Ricky Petterd, who played 12 games in his debut season at Tigerland, will be elevated to the senior list for the 2014 season.
The Tigers currently hold selections No.12, No.50 and No.68 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, to be held on November 21 on the Gold Coast.
