The West Coast fans showed they have short memories when they took to booing Bombers captain and reigning Brownlow medallist Jobe Watson, presumably over his admission he took supplements last season. It left a sour taste over what was an entertaining affair, and players watching around the country weren't too happy either with one tweet from Richmond's Steve Morris summing up their feelings: "Makes me sick hearing the crowd boo such a champion". How quickly they forget. Watson responded with a best on ground performance as he led his side to victory.
2. Big men fly
There must be something in the water in the west, watching how high Eagles freak Nic Naitanui and Essendon counterpart Paddy Ryder (also a West Australian) flew at centre bounces. Unlike many ruckmen who head to Patersons, Ryder more than held his own in a stunning duel and he had to compete against Dean Cox as well.
3. It's all happening
All that was missing was Bill Lawry's iconic call when Eagle Jack Darling goaled with a mid-air volley to start the third term. The goal umpire was so excited he stumbled forward on to the field and fell over, while the most excitable ump of all Ray Chamberlain sent for the video review.
4. What a kick!
There were less than two minutes on the clock when Jake Carlisle lined up from the boundary from 50m out with the Bombers a goal down. And the defender cum pinch-hitting key forward delivered with a precise kick to level the scores under the most intense pressure.
5. Where to now?
The Eagles were tipped to be a genuine premiership chance before the season but will struggle to make it into the top eight after falling to a 6-7 record after their fifth home loss of 2013. The Bombers jumped into the top two for now after their Thursday night win and are firmly in the mix for a top-four finish in what has been an amazing year for them.
