Giants football manager Graeme Allan confirmed the deal on AFL Gillette Trade Radio on Wednesday afternoon.
Securing Hunt meant the Giants have added two premiership players to its list on Wednesday, signing former Collingwood defender Heath Shaw hours earlier.

The 31-year-old former Cat is the latest of a string of players to be offered a lifeline by the League's youngest side, following the footsteps of Chad Cornes, Dean Brogan, Bret Thornton, James McDonald, Luke Power and Setanta O'hAilpin.
Allan initially suggested Hunt would be a good fit for the Giants before confirming the defender would play in orange and charcoal in 2014.
"You might be able to … yeah, you can lock him in," Allan said.
Hunt is unlikely to be the last experienced player the Giants will sign before the AFL Gillette Trade and Free Agency Period ends on Friday afternoon
At the start of the exchange period the club wanted to introduce five or six proven players to its young list.
Hunt is the fourth such player to join the Giants and Allan insisted another one or two would follow by the end of the week.
"Stephen's (Silvagni) working really hard at the moment … to try and do that," he said.
"I'm confident that we'll get another two or three (Hunt included) through the door by Friday."
Allan said the club was also keen to hang on to out-of-contract defender Josh Bruce, despite his desire to join St Kilda.
The 21-year-old played 11 games in 2013 and three in 2012.
Allan confirmed a deal was in front of Bruce and that the club hoped he'd remain a Giant.
"We want Josh to stay, so we're working through that at the moment," he said.
"We've put an offer to Josh Bruce, a very good offer and we'll be working our hardest to keep him at our footy club."
