It is believed Clarke, 19, is close to agreeing to a deal that would keep him at the Gabba until the end of 2016.
It's a small win for the Lions who are battling to keep top-30 draft selections Jared Polec, Elliot Yeo, Billy Longer, Sam Docherty and Patrick Karnezis, who have all expressed a desire to return to their home states.
Yeo has been offered a three-year deal by West Coast.
Clarke was a revelation for the Lions in 2013 after being drafted from his home of Booleroo in country South Australia during the 2011 AFL Rookie Draft.
The 195cm defender played 14 games after making his debut against Melbourne in round five.
He often played as the second key defender alongside either Matt Maguire or Daniel Merrett and was a shining light in the Lions' season.
Clarke's expected extension comes shortly after Richmond free agent Luke McGuane expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for the Lions in 2014.
