LEIGH Matthews has launched a Twitter missile at the Brisbane Lions board, calling on members to join him and let their feelings be known.

Matthews is running a ticket with board members Mick Power and Paul Williams in an attempt to overthrow current chairman Angus Johnson.

Earlier in the week, Matthews' hopes took a hit, with Lions lawyers advising the club the four-time premiership coach could not become a director.

Matthews is a life member, but under the Lions' constitution, only full members with two years continuous membership are eligible for appointment.

Bring on the vote: Angus Johnson hits back

The Matthews ticket – with the support of letters and signatures from 800 members – have also called for an Extraordinary General Meeting that the club has yet to call, despite the deadline passing last Friday.

Matthews hit out on Twitter late on Thursday afternoon, firing off four tweets in the space of an hour.

He started off by taking a swipe at Johnson and his fellow directors

"The stubbornness of Angus Johnson Linda Nash Cameron Milner Peter McGregor not to let the members have there say is astounding," he said.

"Legal shenanigans like a man floating in the middle of the ocean You can struggle but eventually you sink and drown. Fresh start will come."

He then loaded up a little later with the final two, encouraging members and supporters to stick by the club.

Although not wanting to elaborate on his tweets, Matthews told AFL.com.au he was "absolutely" up for the fight and going nowhere.
