The Eagles have all but consigned their season to the scrapheap after Sunday's 22-point loss to the Western Bulldogs left them three games outside the top eight with five rounds remaining.
"You wonder how you would've gone sometimes if you didn't have all of the injuries, but at the same time I think we've got a great squad and I think we've got great depth within the list," Selwood said.
"We've had a lot of changes in and out of the side. Trying to get a good healthy list has been pretty difficult for us."
West Coast has used 37 players in total this season and only four players - Andrew Gaff, Matt Priddis, Dean Cox and Jack Darling - have managed to play all 17 games.
The Eagles could potentially lose another key playmaker after Chris Masten was subbed out of Sunday's clash with an ankle injury.
"He had a scan today and it came up with no break, so that was really positive," Selwood said.
"He's still got to go for more scans this afternoon. It's still likely that he'll miss footy."
However, Selwood didn't want to use injuries as the sole excuse for why the Eagles' season has fallen short of expectations.
"Early on we did have a pretty healthy list, but we just weren't performing to our full potential," he said.
The 2012 Eagles' best and fairest was 45 minutes late for his scheduled press conference as the players were held for a longer than expected team meeting.
"We looked at a few things, positive and negative, but it went a bit longer," Selwood said of the extended discussion of the weekend's game.
The 23-year-old felt West Coast's next five matches against Gold Coast, Essendon, Geelong, Collingwood and Adelaide were still really important to the side, despite the prospect of a finals berth appearing a pipedream.
"What we learn in the next five weeks can be pretty important to what we take into next season as well," Selwood said.
"There's some great challenges coming up. We're playing some really good teams.
"We'll possibly put some really young sides out there so we're looking forward to it."
