THE FEDERAL election came to Etihad Stadium on Saturday, with footy fans set to enjoy free wi-fi internet at games, under a re-elected Labor Government.
In a win for fans, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is promising access to superfast internet at Etihad Stadium from the start of next year's AFL finals series.
Should Labor win the election, it will fast track the rollout of the National Broadband Network (NBN) to Etihad Stadium.
A spart of the Government's promise, the AFL's Docklands headquarters will be connected to the NBN, and the AFL will be an early trial customer of the NBN Co's enterprise grade broadband product.
In an Australian first, the initiative will allow the AFL to deliver wi-fi hotspots for fans to connect to, in a bid to enhance their football experience.
"The AFL is constantly looking at enhancing the game day experience for the tens of thousands of fans who attend our games," said AFL Media general manager Peter Campbell on Saturday.
"There is an increasing hunger amongst fans for reliable access to information and vision on mobile devices and we welcome any measure that help us achieve this."
The move would allow fans to become more interactive during games, with the ability to access their digital devices free of charge.
