"Without wanting to exaggerate, I think it was the hardest day I've ever had in footy," Scott said at Simonds Stadium on Tuesday morning.
"It's devastating for all of us. Right at the moment, we as a football club are all for one."
Asked what he said to Menzel after it was confirmed that the 21-year-old had ruptured the LARS graft in his left knee, Scott said: "I don't know. I can't even remember how I did it.
"We haven't spoken at length, because it's difficult. There's not much to say.
"We just looked at each other and were lost for words, to an extent.
"But … we will stand by Dan with everything we've got."
Both Menzel and the club are yet to decide whether the super-talented half-forward will try and mount a fourth comeback.
"It's really hard to comment on what's going to happen from here, because we've got to do all the investigations required and sit down with Dan and go through the pros and cons of every option," Scott said.
"But the one thing we can be unequivocal on is that we are committed to him for as long as it takes."
However, Scott believes that the club and Menzel will reach a decision on his future sooner rather than later.
"We're talking days, not weeks," he said.
Menzel's teammates have also been hit hard by the news of his latest injury.
"It's shattering news for Daniel and the football club and for Cats supporters," George Horlin-Smith said.
"It's hard to get your head around him having to go through a fourth knee reconstruction.
"But Daniel is an extremely resilient person, and we've got to be there for him and provide as much support as we can over the next couple of weeks while he's making some decisions about how he's going to attack it."
