WITH the NAB AFL Draft Combine completed last week, club recruiters will now turn their attention to the South Australian and West Australian state-based screenings this weekend.
The state screenings provide a chance for players who missed an invitation to the national combine or mature-aged players to showcase their credentials.
South Australian players will be the first to be put through their paces in Adelaide on Saturday.
Joel Tippett, the younger brother of Sydney Swans forward Kurt, is among the names attending the screening.
The 24 year-old played two games with Gold Coast in their inaugural AFL season back in 2011 and has since been a consistent defender with SANFL club West Adelaide.
Club officials will then head west for Sunday’s screening in Perth.
Trying to impress their way onto an AFL list will be WAFL players such as Ben Sokol and Ryan Lester-Smith .
Ian Richardson tested at an individual session before heading overseas.
After another great season with Claremont, Richardson played 22 games for 50 goals with an average of 16.5 touches.
Willy Rioli Jnr will test in Adelaide. Rioli Jnr played for Northern Territory in the NAB Under-18 Championships and is a cousin of Hawthorn’s Cyril Rioli and former Essendon player Dean Rioli.
In the WAFL this season, Rioli Jnr played eight games in the Colts and three matches in the reserves for South Fremantle.
Former Fremantle father-son draft nominee Lester-Smith will search for an AFL chance after a strong season with East Fremantle where he managed 16 senior games, kicked 43 goals and averaged 13.3 disposals.
Players based in Adelaide who couldn't test at last week's NAB AFL Draft Combine because of SANFL Grand Final duties will screen on Saturday. These include James Aish, Trent Dumont, Nathan Gordon, Orazio Fantasia, Alex Spina, Riley Knight, Malcolm Karpany, Cameron Giles, George Hewett and Jake Pitt.
