HAWTHORN'S star recruit Brian Lake has been detained and fined by police following his drunken exit from a Sorrento hotel.
Lake and his wife Shannon were both arrested and spent around four hours in custody on Saturday night before each was issued with a $563 penalty notice.
"Police arrested a 30-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both from Caroline Springs, for drunken behaviour on Point Nepean Highway, Sorrento, about 10.10pm yesterday," a police spokesperson confirmed to AFL.com.au.
Lake has been ordered to face his new club's leadership group on Monday, where he's likely to face further sanction.
The Hawks pre-empted the meeting with a brief statement on Sunday afternoon saying "the club considers Lake's conduct to be unprofessional".
It is understood the venue was packed on Saturday night, with many patrons continuing the party after a day at the Portsea polo.
The defender's shift to Hawthorn from the Western Bulldogs after the 2012 season was seen as one of the recruiting coups of the year.
Lake played 187 matches with the Bulldogs after making his debut in 2002.
He was named in the All Australian team in 2009 and 2010.
