Thomas was dogged by ankle problems late last season, causing him to have a delayed start to 2013.
He played just five games before having surgery in May, but was recently ruled out from returning this year after reinjuring the joint in a VFL comeback attempt.
Thomas has since consulted three surgeons and said it was decided that more surgery is not needed.
"The surgeons have all kind of been on the same page in that they've got a really good belief that (it can heal) with just some rehab and no need to go under," Thomas told Nova FM radio on Friday in Melbourne.
It comes after coach Nathan Buckley said on Thursday that Thomas had received differing opinions on the best way to handle the injury.
Buckley admitted both the club and Thomas held concerns for the 2011 All Australian's long-term future.
"Daisy's concerned about that; we're concerned about it - that's why we need to get it right," the coach told reporters.
"We're talking about something we can influence now with our decision-making for the future."
Thomas, who is eligible for free agency at the end of this season, is yet to commit to the Magpies, with speculation Carlton and Hawthorn are interested in him.
