LAWYERS for Essendon doctor Bruce Reid have lodged paperwork with the Supreme Court of Victoria.

The longtime medico's case is set to go before Justice David Beach at 9.30am on Thursday.

The paperwork included a five-page writ and 25-page supporting affidavit from his lawyer.

Dr Reid is contesting a charge of bringing the game into disrepute under AFL rule 1.6 for his role in the Essendon supplements saga.

Dr Reid is arguing that the AFL cannot hear the case against him, in part, because it is biased and should refer the matter to an independent arbiter such as a former judge.

In the affidavit lodged with the court, lawyer David Maddocks said Dr Reid would suffer "irreparable damage to his reputation and standing as a well-respected doctor" if the Commission proceeds to hear and determine the charge.

"The potential damage may be increased by our concern that the charge is particularized by certain prejudicial assertions, without a proper basis, and which are inconsistent with allegations made against other defendants," Mr Maddocks wrote.

Essendon, coach James Hird, senior assistant Mark Thompson and football manager Danny Corcoran all reached negotiated outcomes with the AFL last week, while Dr Reid has continued to contest his case.

Dr Reid has been with the Bombers for 32 years.
