BROWNLOW medallist Adam Cooney has won four votes in the AFL Coaches' Association's champion player award for his 33-possession effort against Hawthorn, which was his best return in three seasons.

Gary Ablett's 49-possession masterclass in Gold Coast's upset victory over Collingwood has strengthened his grip on the award, receiving maximum points for the fifth time this season to extend his lead to 15 votes from Sydney Swans pair Dan Hannebery and Kieren Jack.

They received 10 and eight votes respectively in their side's win over West Coast.

Ablett's protégé, supremely talented first-year midfielder Jaeger O'Meara, came under notice for the seventh time in his 16 games when he earned seven votes to be second-best against the Magpies.

Western Bulldogs star Ryan Griffen continues to enhance his reputation in a battling side, moving into equal-sixth position in the coaches' award after a perfect 10 against league leader Hawthorn.

Joel Selwood wasthe only Geelong player to get a vote in his side's loss to Adelaide. The Catscaptain, fifth in the AFLCA award, was in a four-way tie for best-afieldhonours with Crows trio Richard Douglas, Ricky Henderson and Rory Sloane.

Irishman PearceHanley is back in the top 10 after being deemed best-on-ground in the BrisbaneLions' win over Melbourne. In the same game, young Demon Jack Viney earned hisfirst votes.

Richmond skipperTrent Cotchin returned to his brilliant best with a perfect 10 in his side'scrucial win over Fremantle.

Cotchin's closemate Matthew Kreuzer hit back at recent criticism to be adjudged third-best afieldin Carlton's nail-biting win over North Melbourne. It was the first time thisseason the Carlton ruckman had been acknowledged by the coaches.

Port Adelaide bigman Justin Westhoff and St Kilda speedster Jack Steven shared best-afieldhonours with just six votes apiece. Unusually, each was awarded a five and aone.

Greater WesternSydney spearhead Jeremy Cameron keeps defying the winless status of his team, kicking four goals and achieving second-best afield votes against Essendon.
