Daniher was touted as a potential replacement for the injured Michael Hurley (ankle), after his strong four-goal performance in the VFL last week.
But coach James Hird opted instead to bring in Stewart Crameri, who has recovered from a knee injury, as well as Kyle Hardingham and Travis Colyer.
Alongside Hurley, Tayte Pears and Jake Melksham have also gone out of the Essendon team from last week's 37-point victory over St Kilda, both dropped.
Hardingham's inclusion means he will play his 50th AFL game, as will David Myers.
Collingwood has made only one change, with Tyson Goldsack, a late withdrawal from last week's win over Richmond, replacing Josh Thomas, who has been omitted.
Meanwhile, St Kilda has made five changes for its Thursday night clash with the Sydney Swans in Wellington, regaining All Australian defender Sean Dempster and including veteran Justin Koschitzke for his first game of the season.
Dempster fractured his wrist against Richmond in round two, while Koschitzke has been in the VFL awaiting a senior opportunity.
Also coming in for the Saints are Tom Lee and 2012 draftees Brodie Murdoch and Josh Saunders, who will both make their AFL debut.
Murdoch, the younger brother of Geelong's Jordan Murdoch, was selected with pick 40 in last year's national draft. He is a left-footed forward from South Australia.
Saunders, picked at.43 in the same draft, is a midfielder from the Geelong Falcons.
The Swans have included Craig Bird and Andrejs Everitt, with Lewis Roberts-Thomson out with a knee injury, and premiership forward Mitch Morton dropped.
