HAWTHORN fans are set to finally say a proper farewell to retiring four-time premiership star Sam Mitchell at this year's Peter Crimmins Medal function.
Mitchell played his 329th and final game on Saturday night for West Coast, after a shock move from the Hawks to the Eagles on a four-year deal in the 2016 trade period.
The impromptu trade, on top of the one that sent fellow veteran Jordan Lewis to Melbourne, meant Mitchell was not given a send-off in front of the Hawthorn faithful.
Mitchell will see out the rest of his West Coast contract as an assistant coach, but will attend and be honoured at the Hawks' club champion night alongside fellow retirees Luke Hodge and Josh Gibson.
He is a five-time Peter Crimmins medallist, the 2012 Brownlow medallist and a former Hawthorn captain who spent 15 seasons in brown and gold.
There are limited tickets available for the function which will be held in Melbourne on October 7.
