ESSENDON'S Brendon Goddard insists he wasn't lying to the AFL Tribunal when he told them Geelong's James Kelly didn't bump him high.
But he admits he was wrong.
In a decision that has drawn much derision, Kelly was banned for two games on Tuesday night.
Reports of bump's death exaggerated: Blair
His argument that there was no forceful contact to the head failed in the face of video footage which suggested otherwise.
The jury took just six minutes to find the Cat guilty.
While Goddard, who gave evidence via telephone backing Kelly's stance, has been accused of simply adhering to 'the players' code' and trying to clear a fellow player, says he told the truth.
"My recollection of incident (at the time) there was no high contact. Footage shows there is. Not forceful enough 2 remember 'at the time'," Goddard tweeted on Wednesday.
"That's not lying BTW.
"I didn't study the footage because I didn't want 2 question my thinking about the incident at the time of it occurring."
Subsequent footage showed Goddard wiping his mouth, as if checking for blood, but he testified he was only wiping away saliva.
On Saturday, Goddard used Twitter to congratulate Kelly on the bump, tweeting: "Good hit last night", and adding it was an "old-fashioned shirtfront".
