The Eagles' season is on the verge of spiralling out of control after losing their third consecutive match at the hands of a sublime Charlie Dixon-led Port Adelaide by 48 points on Saturday.

Dixon bagged six goals, bucking the trend of underperforming key-position players to spearhead the table-topping Power to their fourth straight win, 13.11 (89) to 6.5 (41) at Metricon Stadium.

Apart from a three-goal burst early in the third quarter kickstarted by Josh Kennedy (four goals) that bridged the margin to 11 points, the Eagles lacked poise in attack and were swamped in defence.

Jeremy McGovern's late replacement, Will Schofield, was put on report for headbutting Power forward Zak Butters, gifting momentum back to the 'home' side in the third term. 

It leaves the Eagles staring at a 1-3 and a five-day break before they face Richmond on the Gold Coast.

When it wasn't Dixon dominating in the air, it was the Power's small forwards setting the tone with nine tackles laid in their forward 50 in the first term alone. 

Brad Ebert (16 disposals, two goals) celebrated his 250th AFL match in style and spoiled the 200th match milestones of Eagles Jack Darling and Lewis Jetta.

Schofield in strife for head-Butters
Veteran Eagle Will Schofield will have a nervous wait ahead of Sunday's Match Review findings after a stupid off-the-ball headbutt on Power youngster Zak Butters. Just moments after Charlie Dixon had wrestled back the momentum for the Power with his fourth goal in the third term, Schofield gave away another free kick before the ball had been bounced, making contact with Butters' head – with 15cm height advantage. It left Eagles coach Adam Simpson incensed, barking at Schofield over the phone when he made his way to the bench moments later.

Charlie is Port's new angel
Playing against a defence missing Jeremy McGovern, Charlie Dixon monstered Tom Barrass to be the most influential player on the ground. The Power forward ended with six goals but could've had three or four more as he marked everything in sight. Playing on his former home ground where he played 31 matches as a Sun, Dixon ended with six contested marks and 12 score involvements from his 15 disposals and combined well with emerging forward Todd Marshall. 

Sore Eagle skipper stands up
Leading a midfield that had been demoralised in the past fortnight, Shuey was a rare winner for the Eagles. After completing minimal training in recent weeks and playing with sore ribs that needed attention at half-time, Shuey had an equal game-high 12 contested possessions and 20 pressure acts as Port Adelaide midfielders Travis Boak and Tom Rockliff controlled most of the proceedings.
