THEY'VE been under the spotlight for different reasons, but Port Adelaide duo Chad Wingard and Ollie Wines delivered an emphatic response to their knockers with outstanding performances in Friday night's 14-point win against Richmond at Adelaide Oval.

Dual All-Australian Wingard openly admitted during the week he was struggling for form, while the future of Wines remains up in the air as the Power vice-captain remains unsigned past the halfway mark of the season.

Wingard thrived on being thrown into the midfield, racking up a game-high 31 disposals (13 contested), eight tackles and seven clearances.

"It was us needing that player around the ball," Power coach Ken Hinkley said of Wingard's move from forward into the midfield.

"I loved his stuff this week, he didn't shy away from his form being a little off, but what a way to respond."

Meanwhile, Wines was a beast on the inside, with 16 of his 29 disposals won in the contest, laying 12 tackles to go with 10 inside 50s.

"We were led unbelievably well by Ollie tonight," Hinkley said.

"Both (Wingard) and Ollie got questioned this week on different topics and I think they might have (given their response) to you (the media) and everyone else."

Hinkley said he wasn't sure if Wingard would remain in the midfield, although he made the strongest case possible.

"We'll wait and see, we'll see how it works, because other people have to change and play different roles," he said

"It's always a balance for us.

"It helps get Chad back into better touch, that's really important.

"If you look at Chad Wingard's last month, for those who thought he was out of form, they probably haven't got great memories."

The Power's contested work was outstanding, smashing the Tigers 187-154 and taking advantage of the absence of Brownlow Medallist Dustin Martin.

"We've got our contested ball in a pretty good shape in the last month, that's really important," Hinkley said.

"Albeit we haven't won every game, but we're fighting out and we're winning strong inside-ball.

"That's really important to the success of our football team."

The Power (7-4) have won three of their past four games to sit eighth on the ladder, having already had their bye this season.

Also pleasing was the fact they didn't concede any 50m penalties, after giving away eight in their three-point loss to Hawthorn in round 11.

"There were 50m penalties last week that were undisciplined, we wear that, but tonight we were better in that space," Hinkley said.

The Power have a six-day turnaround before they host the Western Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval next Thursday night.
