FORMER No.8 draft pick Sam Mayes will make his Port Adelaide debut at his old home on Sunday, marking his first AFL game in 757 days.

Power coach Ken Hinkley confirmed the ex-Lion would be one of at least two inclusions for the side to face Carlton at the Gabba.

Crossing from the Lions at the end of 2018 as the 'steak knives' in a deal that landed the Power pick No.5 (used on Connor Rozee), Mayes was not seen at senior level in 2019 and played a full season in the SANFL.

However, with the suspension to Brad Ebert and hamstring injury to Cam Sutcliffe, the 26-year-old will get his opportunity against the Blues to add to his 101 AFL matches.

"It will be a really good story for us. He's had a couple of years since he's played some AFL football and it's exciting to know he's had to work really, really hard and earned his opportunity," Hinkley said on Friday morning.

"We know that Sam is one of those blokes who's got some flexibility about him (to potentially play back).

"He's persisted and he's made his way into the team and I'm sure he'll give everything he's got to stay there."

Hinkley said speedster Xavier Duursma would need to get through training later on Friday in order to be named for his first game back from a hamstring injury sustained in round three.

Just as they did in last week's win over Greater Western Sydney, the Power will fly on the morning of the game to tackle the Blues.

Players overlooked for AFL selection will feature in a scratch match in Adelaide against the Crows.
