Collingwood football chief Geoff Walsh said Boyd's promotion was a reward for the positive influence he has had at the club.
"Matthew's growth as a coach at Collingwood has been immeasurable. He has genuine care for his colleagues and players and we see him as a natural fit for the assistant coach role," Walsh said.
"We're proud to see him develop within our coaching ranks and we expect him to add great value to Nathan's senior coaching group."

"Garry's vast and varied playing and coaching resume makes him a great fit for our VFL program as we have no doubt that the team will be able to learn a lot from him," Walsh said.
"In just two years at the club, Garry's approach to coaching has made him very popular with our players and staff alike and we look forward to him working with players on our AFL and VFL lists."
