Melbourne turns Red and Blue for Queen’s Birthday Blockbuster
In the lead-up to our Queen’s Birthday Blockbuster against Collingwood, Melbourne’s Town Hall is flying the flag – or a number of giant flags, to be precise – for the club of the City.
The thousands of commuters who pass this central landmark each day will have noticed four giant banners hanging from Town Hall’s balcony to celebrate MELBOURNEfc’s 150th birthday.
These banners will hang proudly for the next fortnight, as our 150th Birthday celebrations reach a climax around one of the biggest annual events on the AFL calendar.
On the Monday morning before our Queen’s Birthday Blockbuster, we are calling on the entire Red and Blue Army to gather just a couple of hundred metres away - at Federation Square - to turn another Melbourne landmark red and blue for the Red and Blue Army Walk to the MCG.
At least 100 players, both past and present, will be joining supporters from all over the world for the walk, and the first 500 to show up will receive a free breakfast.
The Red and Blue Army Walk to the MCG has been planned to provide all supporters with a chance to celebrate our 150th together.
Some of the past players confirmed to take part in the walk include Robert Flower, Shane Woewodin, Brett Lovett, Andrew Leoncelli and Hassa Mann.
The Walk will depart Federation Square at 11.30 am, and travel through The Age-MELBOURNEfc Photographic Exhibition in Birrarung Marr on its way to the MCG.
