The Port Adelaide Football Club is mourning the death of Von Williams.
Von died on Thursday night just after 9pm at the Flinders Medical Centre. She was 82.
For more than half a decade Von made a wonderful contribution to this football club. She arrived at Alberton in 1950 with husband Fos as captain / coach, saw her sons Mark, Anthony (deceased) and Stephen all play in the famous black and white, and passed away last night with her son Mark at the helm of the club she loved.
Von was very much the matriarch of the Port Adelaide Football Club and a wonderful ambassador.
Port Adelaide president Greg Boulton paid tribute to Von Williams.
“Von was an amazing woman,” Boulton said.
“She was a wonderful wife to Fos and mother to Jenny, Mark, Anthony and Stephen. She was fiercely loyal to her family. She was also fiercely loyal to her other family, the Port Adelaide Football Club. For that we are forever grateful.
“Her contribution to what this club achieved since 1950 cannot be understated. Her love and strength of character provided much inspiration to all at the club but especially her family who together have helped make the Port Adelaide Football Cub what it is today.
“The Board, Management, Players and Staff of the Port Adelaide Football Club offer our deepest sympathies to the family, including in particular our coach Mark Williams.”
The Port Adelaide players will wear black arm bands against Hawthorn on Sunday, while the Power flags will fly at half-mast at AAMI Stadium.
