MATT Campbell's career at North Melbourne appears over, with the small forward and Roos agreeing he is best to seek a new club during the Gillette AFL Trade Period.

In a live chat on North's website on Tuesday, football chief Donald McDonald said Campbell and the club had mutually agreed he should seek a fresh start to his AFL career, despite being contracted to North for next season.

"Matty is looking for a new home. Both Matt and the club have agreed this is the best path forward," McDonald said.

"Like the other players, we will have to wait until the trade period is over before we confirm anything."

Campbell, 25, was involved in an incident at Crown Casino in September, when he was ejected by security and then arrested by Victoria Police after allegedly damaging a parked car belonging to a casino staff member.

In last year's trade period, Campbell was reportedly courted by Hawthorn before signing a two-year contact with North.

Campbell's likely departure from Aegis Park follows the Roos' trade discussions on Hamish McIntosh with Geelong and Cameron Pedersen with Melbourne, and Cruize Garlett's request to be traded, preferably to West Coast or Fremantle.

McDonald said North had received "a little bit of interest" in Garlett from opposition clubs, while the club would not make a decision on the futures of uncontracted forwards Aaron Edwards, Ben McKinley and Ben Warren until the end of the trade period on October 26.

Meanwhile, McDonald confirmed North's interest in pursuing trades for Gold Coast ruckmen Tom Hickey, 21, and Port Adelaide midfielder Ben Jacobs, 20.

Campbell played 15 games in 2012, including North's last 10 home and away games and elimination final against West Coast. He played 82 games and kicked 79 goals for North after being selected with pick No.34 in the 2007 Rookie Draft.

Campbell's manager, Alex McDonald, did not return AFL.com.au's calls.
