CLEARANCE specialist Paul Hasleby is set to jump straight back into the Fremantle midfield for this Sunday's clash with the Western Bulldogs, coach Mark Harvey has declared.

Hasleby, 27, is returning from a knee reconstruction and missed the entire 2008 season. But he has shown impressive pre-season form playing across half-back and occasionally in the midfield.

Harvey said Hasleby was now ready to resume his familiar role in the centre square against the highly-rated Bulldogs' midfield.

"Paul's overcome his subconscious thing about overcoming a knee reconstruction and he's really moving into some form," Harvey said on Thursday.

"He's experienced and I'm putting guys like Pavlich and those sorts of guys around there."

Young midfielders Rhys Palmer and Garrick Ibbotson are also set for engine room roles against the Bulldogs after breakout seasons in 2008.

NAB AFL Rising Star Palmer, 20, received the opposition's No.1 tag towards the end of last season, while Ibbotson, 21, won't be ignored after playing 19 games in 2008.

Harvey said the extra pressure opposition sides will apply to the pair was not a concern.

"You'd like your team to have the resolve that they can withstand anything," he said.

"Mental toughness is high up on my agenda as a coach, so I'd like to think that my players can handle anything that's thrown at them and in fact forward that to the opposition as well."

Harvey declared the pre-season experiment with defender Antoni Grover and forward Chris Tarrant over, but said playing them at unfamiliar ends of the ground had been a success.

"The experiment has finished," he said.

"Having said that, what it does do now for us is give us an insight into where they can and can't play.

"The Bulldogs have got a small forward line with probably one or two talls down there, so [we're unsure] whether we can find the right match-up for Tarrant down there at this particular stage.

"When you go into round one you like to have settled structures, so we'll probably do that."

Harvey said versatility in his side's midfield and key position players that can swing end to end were the strengths of his side heading into the new season, while the team was significantly quicker.

He added that Fremantle's young players had given the side the ability to hassle and expose opponents. But, with 10 first-year players on the senior list, he conceded early-season injuries would expose the side's weaknesses.

Dream Team watch – Paul Hasleby is rated a $257,800 midfielder in Toyota AFL Dream Team 2009.
