WEST Coast coach John Worsfold has played down the value of a priority draft pick ahead of this week's bottom of the ladder clash with Melbourne.

The Eagles are favourites to beat the last placed Demons after accounting for Essendon by 10 points last week. If they win they will sacrifice a priority pick, likely to be No.18 in next year's NAB AFL Draft.

However, Worsfold was more concerned with developing pride and leadership in his young group.

"Draft picks have never been a concern," Worsfold said on Wednesday.

"Wherever we finish I'm very confident that I can develop this club to be back and to be a powerful club within a fairly short period of time. One draft pick in one season is not going to make any difference to that.

"The squad that we've got on the sidelines this week is certainly going to cover any draft pick we get this year. We've got the talent within our squad to bounce back into a pretty good side."

Nevertheless, Worsfold is managing a severely depleted squad and expects to be without Ash Hanen (ankle) and David Wirrpanda (corked buttock) for this Saturday's MCG fixture.

But while the goal-kicking duo is unavailable Worsfold has declared the side's most productive forward, Ben McKinley, is a wanted player.

The 21-year-old booted a career-best seven goals against the Bombers and leads the club’s goalkicking with 35 for the season. But Worsfold said there were a number of seemingly administrative issues that needed to be cleared before the club could sign the emerging forward.

"There are a lot of rules and regulations you have to go through in terms of nominating your list at the end of the season, so really we're rapt with the way Ben's going," Worsfold said.

"He's a very exciting young player and I think he's going to have a very good future with us. Whenever it's appropriate we'll talk to him about that."
