The Age quotes Irish newspaper the Daily Mail as saying Kennelly was "on his way home to spearhead Kerry's tilt at reclaiming the All-Ireland football championship this year". The newspaper claims Kennelly has re-thought his commitment to playing out the last year of his contract with the Swans, and that the club would be soon be announcing his departure.
But Swans general manager of football Andrew Ireland dismissed the report, saying Kennelly would see out the year in the AFL.
"The last time I spoke to him was on the weekend and nothing had changed," Ireland told The Age. "It was pretty hot when they trained [on Friday] morning but I don't think he was finding it that hard."
In response to the Daily Mail's claim that Swans players had already thrown a going away shindig for Kennelly, Ireland said: "As for going away parties, Adam Goodes had a birthday party recently. That's the only party I've heard about."
Kennelly has made no secret about his desire to one day resume playing Gaelic football, going on the record to declare his intention to return to Ireland when his contract with the Swans ran out.
But the running defender has consistently denied rumours that he would call time on his contract early in order to emulate his late father by winning an All-Ireland championship.
