Veteran Dean Brogan carried the majority of the Power's ruck duties last season, with support from defender Jackson Trengove and forward Justin Westhoff.
However, the club is keen to keep Trengove and Westhoff in their respective key positions this season and experimented with Stewart in the centre square against Richmond in Alice Springs on Friday night.
Untried big man Jarrad Redden also spent time in the ruck at Traeger Park, but the changes to the AFL's interchange rules are likely to see the Power stick with Brogan as their sole ruckman again this year.
Stewart established himself as a forward in the team last season, playing 11 games, but said he expected to spend more time in the ruck in 2011.
"I reckon most clubs will be looking at [playing] a more hybrid ruckman this season that can go forward as well and I know Jarrad and Matthew Lobbe have been practising going forward during the pre-season," Stewart said on Tuesday.
"You've got to have a couple more strings to your bow than just rucking. I love playing forward, but to have that extra string to your bow gives you more chance to play in round one and for the rest of the season."
The Power are yet to win a game in the pre-season competition and face a tough challenge up against Geelong at AAMI Stadium on Friday night.
Brogan, Steven Salopek, Jason Davenport, Brett Ebert and emerging star Hamish Hartlett could all be available for selection and Stewart said it was important for the team's confidence that they had a win.
"We showed improvement in Alice [Springs] and we've got Geelong this week, so hopefully we can get a better result," he said.
"Most clubs go out in the NAB Cup to try and win and get that confidence up going into round one. We need that confidence as much as any other club, so we'll try and get a good result this week."
Daniel Stewart is a $195,900 forward in the Toyota AFL Dream Team competition.
