Hawks join global warming battle
Hawthorn’s trip to Tasmania this year will become carbon neutral flights thanks to a partnership with local organisation TreeSmart.
TreeSmart’s main business is offsetting greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector and planting eucalypt tree farms.
For every Hawthorn game in Tasmania this year TreeSmart will offset the 20 tonnes of carbon dioxide created, by planting and maintaining one hectare of eucalypt plantation.
Hawthorn’s Simon Taylor today launched Hawthorn’s community partnership with TreeSmart at Summerdale Primary School in Launceston.
Taylor officially opened the campaign by planting one of the 20 trees TreeSmart has donated to Summerdale PS.
In January 2007 TreeSmart were selected by the Victorian State Government to offset part of the emissions from the Victorian Government vehicle fleet.
TreeSmart will also offset carbon dioxide for travel taken by Hawks supporters attending Hawthorn’s Round 11 game against Sydney at the MCG.
