BRISBANE Lions coach Michael Voss was delighted with his side's workman-like performance against North Melbourne after the club's third trip to Melbourne in the past month yielded another four premiership points.

"It was good the way that they just fought it out," Voss said after the 18-point win.

"It was pleasing because we've had a pretty rigorous last couple of weeks. To come down here and play against a pretty tough opposition … it was good to be able to get away with a win.

"At times we had to grind it out a fair bit. I don't think it was a flamboyant game, there were some individual efforts which were quite remarkable, but it was just one of those games where you just had to do the work and try and get the result at the end."

The victory – the Lions sixth of the season – propels them into the top four, but Voss was unsure whether his side could rightfully be considered genuine top-four material just yet.

"It's yet to be seen [if we can stay there], but I think … there are a lot of people talking about other teams and we're happy with that," he said.

"We'll just keep doing our business. I've said all along that we're a team that hasn't earned the right to stand up and say 'Hey we're around, look at us'. We're an unproven team that has been out of the finals for the last four years.

"We'll continually keep the foot down and keep pressing home those points that are important for us in the run home and hopefully figure in finals because we haven't been there for a while."

Underlining the workman-like nature of the Lions performance at Docklands was the fact that none of their star players stood up to influence the result off their own boots.

"They'll play their great games because they're great players and I'm talking about Black and Power and Bradshaw and Brown," Voss said.

"We know they'll kick their goals, but [it's a positive] just to be able to see them make a contribution.

"Not only with what they do on the scoreboard or possessions, but for them to be able to make a contribution to the team has been something perhaps that they're not getting acknowledged for at the moment."

Part-time ruck solution Mitch Clark continued to grow in stature in the coach's eyes after battling hard against Hamish McIntosh and providing an excellent contest around the stoppages on his way to 21 possessions and 29 hit-outs.

Michael Rischitelli threw a scare into the Lions' camp when he looked to be in significant pain while being treated for an arm injury, but Voss reported it was only a 'dead' arm that wasn't cause for great concern.
