GREATER Western Sydney is confident banned midfielder Lachie Whitfield will stay at the Giants for many more years, despite interest from other clubs.
Whitfield, 22, is not available to play until round eight as he serves an AFL-imposed suspension for conduct prejudicial to the interests of the AFL for attempting to dodge a drug test.
The Victorian was drafted with the first overall selection in 2012 and is one of a bevy of star onballers at the Giants.
He is contracted until the end of 2018 and although he is sure to be a highly sought-after commodity at trade time, GWS football manager Wayne Campbell told News Corp there were no concerns.
"He is really happy. We have spoken to his manager (about that speculation) and had positive talks," Campbell said.
"He will be a Giants player for a whole lot longer."
Whitfield is managed by Tom Petroro.
The club has lost big names Adam Treloar (Collingwood), Tom Boyd (Western Bulldogs) and Taylor Adams (Collingwood) in the past but have done well to keep many others, including Dylan Shiel, Jeremy Cameron and Jonathon Patton.
Young gun Josh Kelly was offered a nine-year deal by North Melbourne and is yet to make a decision on his future.
Meanwhile, out-of-contract small forward Devon Smith told SEN on Saturday morning he intends to stay at the club.
The Giants drafted Smith with pick No.14 in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft.
"I've been here since the start and done the hard work, and next week will play my 100th game. It will be a proud moment for me," Smith said.
Asked if he wanted to see out the journey and help the club toward its inaugural premiership, Smith was unequivocal.
"Yeah, 100 per cent," he said.
