THE BRISBANE Lions and Collingwood will receive compensation from the AFL after utility Jared Brennan and ruckman Josh Fraser became the seventh and eighth uncontracted players to join Gold Coast.
Brennan and Fraser signed with the Suns soon before Thursday's 2pm deadline, although written permission was required from the Lions given Gold Coast had already acquired midfielder Michael Rischitelli from the club.
The Lions gave the go-ahead, and the details of the compensation packages are expected to be finalised before the weekend.
The clubs are also expected to swap their first-round draft picks - speculated to be the Suns' selection No.5 for the Lions' No.10 - before the end of the exchange period.
Upon notifying the Lions that he wanted to leave, Brennan drew interest from Victorian clubs but was pleased to be given the opportunity to stay in Queensland.
"I couldn't be more thrilled about the way things have turned out," he told Gold Coast's website.
"I'm really looking forward to a fresh start, and to be able to further my career in Queensland is a real bonus. It's going to be an exciting time."
Fraser fell out of favour at the Magpies this season and was not considered for their premiership side despite his 200 games' experience.
"I've played a lot of football at a successful club over 11 years and although I still reckon I've got plenty to offer as a player, I'm really excited about working with the up and coming guys to try to help them be the best they can be," Fraser said.
Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft echoed Fraser's sentiments when he spoke to afl.com.au's Trade Week Radio.
"He's obviously a No.1 draft pick and has the experience of being a leader at Collingwood and we think he'll be a good mentor for our young kids," Ashcroft said.
"We've got some very young and raw ruckmen ... so we need to make sure we give those guys some relief through 2011. Our strategy was to try and find a ruckman who could shoulder the load, someone who has a bit of experience in the AFL scene.
"We looked at a few ruckmen and we decided on Josh in the end."
Gold Coast will enter its first season with Fraser, Brennan, Rischitelli, Adelaide's Nathan Bock, Port Adelaide's Nathan Krakouer, Hawthorn's Campbell Brown, the Western Bulldogs' Jarrod Harbrow and its main man, Geelong's Gary Ablett, as its experienced heads.
