GOLD Coast will unveil three debutants against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday with Michael Coad, Maverick Weller and Daniel Gorringe all earning a call up for the trip to Melbourne.

Josh Fraser was unable to take part in the main training session on the Gold Coast after rolling an ankle in last week's heavy loss to Carlton and drops out of the side, along with Marc Lock and Josh Toy, who were both omitted.

Despite his lack of AFL experience Coad, a veteran of the SANFL competition, will add some steel to a backline that had its hands full against the Blues.

"It's always exciting to get your first game, even at 27," Coad said after being named in a back pocket in the Suns' second side of the season.

"It's always disappointing [to miss out] but there were a lot of other blokes in the same position [last week], so it wasn't too bad.

"A couple of times there I thought [an AFL career] might have passed me by, but it was just amazing to get the opportunity to come up here and now I get another opportunity to showcase [myself, which is great]."

Weller joined the club as a 17-year-old as part of the Suns' list build draft concessions. He played 17 VFL games for the team last year and admitted it had been hard to hear that he was not going to be part of Gold Coast's maiden side.

"It was disappointing not to get in last week, but I was a lot better off to have a run in the two's," Weller said.

"It helped me to go back and work really hard on what the coaches wanted me to work on. They think that I've shown that and I'm happy to be getting an opportunity now.

"I had a really good start of pre-season up until we started playing games. I started to get a few knocks which didn't help me, but there were also a couple of things we needed to work on and we've done that."

Gorringe, the most highly rated ruckman of the 2010 draft pool, was taken at pick 10 and he paid tribute to Fraser and his ruck coach, former Demon Jeff White, for getting him to a stage where he could be considered for senior selection.

"Frase has been really good throughout the pre-season and last week as well," Gorringe said.

"If I can come into the team and play the same sort of role, then hopefully I can help us get a win.

"I'm really looking forward to running out there on Saturday. The nerves haven't really kicked in yet, but I'm sure they'll come."
