A BRILLIANT 10-goal third quarter from Port Adelaide propelled them to a dramatic 16-point victory over Fremantle at Subiaco on Saturday afternoon, 19.7 (121) to 16.9 (105).

Power trailled by 28 points at quarter-time, 22 points at the main break and by 34 points mid-way through the third term before their goal barrage overwhelmed the home team in front of 37,425 fans.

The goal-fest, spurred by a massive torpedo from Brendan Lade and a dazzling term from Damon White, meant they went to three-quarter time with a 14-point margin.

It was the second-best quarter in Port history.

Dean Brogan exploded to life in the ruck and Port piled on seven goals in a row, with White putting an anonymous first half behind him with three goals in 10 minutes.

Brett Ebert's hard work was rewarded during Port's purple patch with two majors.

Fremantle, aided by the breeze, looked dangerous early in the last quarter, but Port fought out the match strongly, with former Tiger David Rodan starring up forward in his first game for the Power and 2006 NAB Rising Star Danyle Pearce adding a stamp of class to proceedings.

Dockers captain Matthew Pavlich, with five goals, occasionally threatened to steal the match from Port Adelaide, but he missed a couple of kickable chances in the final term. Power iced the game in the last few minutes as the parochial crown thinned noticeably.

Fremantle dominated early on the back of a brilliant beginning from giant ruckman Aaron Sandilands, who owned the centre corridor and was instrumental in an eight-goal first term for the Dockers.

Daniel Motlop kept Port Adelaide in the match with three first-quarter goals, but he left the field with a leg injury early in the second term and did not return.

Eight goals were scored from free kicks in the first quarter, which saw 21 free kicks as the umpires kept a tight rein on infringements in marking duels.
