WA Football Development, in conjunction with Sekem, is very excited to announce the winners of the Design a Football Jumper competition.
This year over 100 schools from around the state took part in the competition, which involved designing a football jumper which truly reflected the ethos of the school and took into account other aspects of the community such as local landmarks, location of the school, cultural influences and sporting involvement.
The entries were narrowed down to 17 finalists with the Metropolitan winner being Hana Arai from Kensington Primary School and the Regional winner Scott Smith from Yerecoin Primary School.
Clayton Anderson from the WA Football Commission stated said Sekem had produced a set of 20 playing jumpers in the winning designs for each school.
"On behalf of the WAFC and Sekem we hope that Kensington Primary School and Yerecoin Primary School wear the jumpers with pride for many years to come,” Mr Anderson said.
“Both designs truly reflect the culture and ethos of the respective schools and offer the school football teams the opportunity to promote their school's identity each time they represent their school.”
Formal presentations to both schools were conducted this month with Perth Demons District Development Staff on hand to make the presentation to Hana at Kensington Primary School and former West Coast Eagle Brad Smith travelling to Yerecoin Primary School to present Scott and his school with a brand new set of jumpers.
Ms Joeley Howard, Principal of Yerecoin Primary School said: “It was wonderful that the school has won these jumpers as we've had to borrow football jumpers and resources to compete in the Eagles Cup and Lightning Carnivals.
"Now we have our own jumpers that represent their school and the players can take the field in future games feeling extremely proud of themselves.”
