Hawthorn midfielder Sam Mitchell has escaped serious injury after being assaulted at a Melbourne hotel on Saturday night.Mitchell was at the hotel with a group of friends when a female in his group was verbally abused and then struck by another patron, with Mitchell then stepping in to try and prevent his friend suffering any further assault. But the attacker then turned on Mitchell, punching him to the side of the head, with the pair wrestling in an ensuing scuffle that saw them fall on the floor of the establishment before being separated by security staff.Mitchell and his friends left the hotel soon after, moments after the incident and a subsequent apology from the girlfriend of the other patron who had attacked him and his friend.Mitchell will travel to Tasmania with his Hawks team-mates on Monday for a pre-season training camp.
