SYDNEY has ruled out young ruckman Darcy Cameron for one match after a lacerated finger became infected during a NEAFL trial match at the weekend.
Cameron suffered the laceration at training last week, but football manager Tom Harley said the injury was made worse during a practice game against Sydney University on Saturday.
The 21-year-old, who was recruited with pick No.48 in last year's NAB AFL Draft, would only miss one match.
"He lacerated his finger last week at training and then we had a game against Sydney Uni in the NEAFL out at Blacktown in pretty treacherous conditions," Harley said on the club's website.
"Unfortunately for Darcy his finger got infected. He's OK he just needed to flush that out and make sure he cleared it of all the bugs.
"He's unavailable for selection this week, (but) he's had a massive pre-season so we don't see any long-term effects for Darcy."
Harley said premiership defender and former co-captain Jarrad McVeigh had progressed well in recent days as he recovers from a calf strain, but he was still on track for a round four return.
Isaac Heeney's glandular fever symptoms have settled "almost completely" with the young star set to ramp up his training towards the end of the week.
